Coal used to be a four-letter word in environmental circles. But supercritical coal-fired technology is helping change that perception. Watch a new kind of power plant take shape in America's heartland, one capable of producing much more electricity, with far fewer emissions than traditional coal-fired units.

  • coal can never be clean maybe cleaner, the mega wealthy only care about one thing and that is money, look at this marcellus shale gas well drilling it is killing water supplies but there is money to be made by the mega wealthy so they will keep drilling. Someday when there is no clean air or clean water they will realize their money is not worth shit.

  • Given that this is now being built, I don't doubt that it IS one of the cleanest coal plants in the world. And I do believe that the greatest threat from coal is from those without desulfuration systems, etc. So maybe if you didn't believe in global warming this plant wouldn't look very bad. But that's even discounting coal mining effects, which you might not even see just working at a plant.

    Better than other plants? yes.

    maybe indirectly kill thousands? maybe.

  • Well said. Clean coal is a joke. It has not been developed fully, so we don't know whether it would work or not. Plus, look at where they get coal: mountain top removal, destroying natural ecosystems. Coal is the death of planet Earth and all life forms on it - including humanity. Look at the work of the IPCC and James Hansen on climate change.

  • This video is unconscionable -- the most important association between fishing and coal-burning power is that these plants dump toxic mercury that gets bioconcentrated in fish. "Moist air" coming out of the stack? "Environmentally friendly"?? "Better for generations to come"? I'm astonished that even a reprehensible industry like the coal-generated power industry would so blithely green-wash. Shame on you.
