  • Thanks for the video review. I was wondering if you could share some low light images. I like to take pictures in low light/no flash situations. I heard you mention in the video that you also like to take pics in low lighting as well... How does this lens perform in low lighting? Thanks again!

  • @steveygti1978 The first 6 pictures in this album were shot with the 17-55: Well shucks. I can't post hotlinks in a comment.. I'll message it to you.

I'm very happy with how it preforms. IQ doesn't seem to fade. I find my camera more of a hindrance (above 1000 ISO it gets too grainy for me) than the lens.

    Hope that helps!

  • I just recently traded my 24-105 L for the 17-55. My motivation was to get a wider FOV on my crop camera. I am very happy with the IQ. The build quality doesn't seam to be a solid. Have you found this to be a hindrance?

  • @nharbin72 The L series are definitely a notch above the 17-55. However, this lens has hit quite the few lamp poles while dangling from my shoulder... No problems. It's also been exposed to light rain, very cold temperatures, and has traveled half way around the world. No hindrance for me.

  • Pretty much have me sold after seeing your review. Only thing I keep hearing about this lens is that it is a "dust magnet". Any issues with that? If so, did it affect your images?

  • @Reypadd Sorry for the delay. There are some dust particles underneath the front element. I would not call it a magnet, and my images have not suffered in the least (that I can tell).

  • 24*1.6=38.4~40mm not 45mm ;-)

  • The only thing I don't like about the tamron is the distortion at 17mm , since I don't like to use editing software too much .

  • I'm not so sure if I'll buy this one or the tamron vc version . Half the price and smaller size . This is a little too big for a lens that stays on 90% of the time

  • Nice review - it's right on. This is the best zoom lens out there for crop sensor SLRs.

  • Thanks for the video.

One question. How well does it focus while zoomed in max?

  • How I would love this lens... The 18-55mm that came with my Rebel isn't cutting it for me anymore... =/

  • Hey man could u do some more reviews on your other equipment??? I really enjoyed your review and I think the photography community could really benefit from your reviews

  • @Nathant888 Yeah, I've had this lens for more than 4 months now, and I love it. Knock-on-wood, I don't have any dusts inside the lens, since I keep it in a case and the camera bag.

  • Thanks for this! I was long set on the 24-70 2.8 L for my newly purchased 7D, but I'll be going for the 17-55 instead. I shoot mostly without flash so the 2.8 with IS will come in handy.
