Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin speaking at a special meeting of council regarding the replacement of the Johnson Street Bridge. The statements imply there are no options: refurbishment of the bridge cannot be accomplished, and if Victoria voters reject the $42 Million borrowing bylaw, then he will still push for replacement, and ask taxpayers to pay directly.

  • I am truly dumbfounded by Dean Fortin's tunnel vision for just replacement. Was he really serious? If he can't borrow the funds he would make the tax payers pay for the whole thing over 2 years? That's an two payments of $323 for every voter in Victoria! Why won't he look at fixing the bridge?
