In this six-minute video, Jake Smith, a surgical technologist from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, discusses his recent trip to Haiti as part of the ongoing earthquake relief efforts sponsored by the University of Maryland Medical Center. Jake talks about his personal experiences during the trip, including his living conditions, his role in the relief efforts, the challenges he faced trying to fulfill his job responsibilities and the lessons he learned.

Jake also discusses his feelings towards the people of Haiti, those whom he worked with as well as those he cared for. He commends the families' resilience while caring for injured loved ones and facing the hardships caused by the earthquake, and he remarks that working with the Haitian doctors and nurses was like "working with friends," despite the challenge of overcoming a strong language barrier.
