Lyrics

You don't have to listen, at least not to me It's one of those days of contingency I'm careful with footsteps, I'm cautious with fear On the out chance that you will be near Ch 1. Your mouth is wide open, you don't make a sound How do you figure anyone around you can hear you say that, dear? 2. I'm too old for this child game, too young for this job Of put it all on and shake all of it off We want all of our purpose to be less of a cause Heart should be in it despite any flaws

But you're heavy on the pedals, you're hard on my mind. When I look for you, you're hard to find. Hard to hear you say that, dear. Oh the melody broken, the harmony peering out from the chaos and suddenly I want to hear you say that, dear.

  • As a woman who has known Brooke for about 13 years, including pre-DR (heart), I can say she draws upon influences vast and plentiful. Her mom is an wonderful singer and player as well. Most days I've just thought she was born with a guitar in her hands and a heart to match her Greenfield in size and sound. She is private, humble, insightful and completely authentic. Her lyrical sound is her sound and has been since I first heard her. Thanks for sharing your gift, Brooke, and for keepin it real.

  • @cliff250 Yup, when you're learning to play an instrument, you gotta work on technique until you're at a point where you can stop thinking about it so much. I'm also at the point as a listener where, while I appreciate command of an instrument, I also value strong musical content that will move me as a listener. Some people manage to do that with a pentatonic melody and four chords (just ask Lennon & McCartney!) and others do it through travelling through secondary dominants. It's all good! ;-)

  • This song immerses me in a sweet puddle of warmth & gentle emotionality. It's damn good.

  • This is exquisite, you managed to cause my friend to have a sorely needed sob.

Thank you for this song, you made my world a better place.

  • This song has a nice, earthy sound but the way she swallows some of her words makes it difficult to listen to at some points. The lyrics are gorgeous; I just wish I could hear them!
