This footage was taken June 5th, 2007 from an MIA-MSY AA Flight in a Boeing 737-800 w/ winglets. The approach takes place from the South-East of Armstrong International. Initially you can appreciate the canals in Plaquemines Parish till you can definitely recognize the Belle Chase Intra coastal Waterway draw-bridge at Woodland road. Then you can see some of Gretna and Terrytown, including the 'burned down to the ground' Oakwood Mall (reference to Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard) then you can see the Crescent City Connection over the Mississippi river followed by a quick view of lower Central Business District in New Orleans downtown, Superdome, New Orleans Arena. The approach continues in direction North North West entering the Metairie skies to then reach Lake Pontchartrain to turn south after reaching Kenner at Loyola Avenue to make a long approach to land headed south on Louis Armstrong International Airport main runway. ALl on a nice clear June day

  • Man I love that approach into MSY. Growing up in BR I saw so many planes making that approach along interstate 10 when driving to New Orleans. It's great to be on the plane now visiting home and seeing the interstate when you make that turn over the lake. It's like a welcome home sign. Then I walk out of the airport and get smacked with humidity and I know I'm back in Louisiana for sure. I could seriously use and Abita and a plate of red beans and rice right now. Thanks for posting this.

  • That's the city i love!
