The second Act of the Film Tarzan of Apes by Edgar Rice Boroughs. The First ever Tarzan movie.1918.
In this episode Tarzan meets a runaway slave named Bins who had been captured by Arab slavers ten years earlier. Binns had been part of the mutiny and had saved Tarzan's Parents so he knew the story and was seeking safety with Lord Greystoke at the site he had left them.
After escaping from the Arabs He reaches the House only to find the skeletal remains of the Greystokes.
He Finds a fresh hand print of the boy Tarzan but collapses of fatigue before meeting the boy.
Tarzan returns to the hut and is surprised to find a strange looking human on his floor.
The man revives and Tarzan is unsure if he should kill this stranger but this is his first close encounter with a human and is confused. The old slave wins over Tarzan with his speech and touch and Tarzan the Mighty killer of beasts melts and becomes a child again.
Binns becomes Tarzan's first human friend. He teaches Tarzan to read.
This seems to be a deviation from the original story but Burroughs played an active part in scripting this movie and he has Authors prerogative in adjusting his story and used this to explain why Tarzan was so literate later in the tale.
However the Friendship is short lived as the Arabs soon catch up and Binns leads the slavers away from Tarzans home-ground.
Binns gets away in a canoe and after many more years returns to England and informs Tarzan's Grandfather that his Grandson is Alive living wild in the jungle, an expedition is mounted to verify if not rescue the heir of Greystoke but that is chapter 3 of this marvellous tale.
Very interesting. Very different from the book.

@BandakaKush Yes it's a bit of a deviation from the original story, but as the author Edgar Rice Buroughs was the screenwriter of this movie he inserted the charactor Binns to explain how Tarzan was able to read and write so well later.
The first book was still quite new at the time and not many even knew the story.
This part was like a mini story in itself.
but i like the first version where Tarzan figures it out by himself.

@Choowbz Thank you for the reply. So you could even consider this movie part of thye official cannon!

@BandakaKush Well, as the Author worked with the film crew I suppose you could call it a directors cut for its day.
It was made to promote his book to a wider readership and as he went on to write 29 more Tarzan stories it worked.
But i don't remember the character Binns ever being mentioned in any of his later books.
Burroughs liked the first half of this movie but was not happy with the actor playing the adult Tarzan.
Yet it was seen by many for the first time ever.
