And of course some start up smoking to be part of a counter-culture against politically correct behaviour :) Also, the notion that you're doing something dangerous with your health is exciting for many — that's why so many people do extreme sports, it's all about the adrenaline rush. It's not my case (I just like the smoke itself and the small tiny rituals that come with the act of smoking) but I can understand that kind of fascination, too...

@zzsharka The only reason for starting to smoke *nowadays* is really because you enjoy the taste, and, even more important than that, the whole set of gestures and rituals that come with smoking: buying cigarettes, keeping them in a case (like I do), the act of lighting, the oral fixation, and so forth. All those tiny things can be as enjoyful as the smoke itself, and the slight buzz you get from nicotine.

@zzsharka Oh, I cannot disagree with you. Yes, there is zero nutrition and zero calories in tobacco, just chemicals and nothing else; and you point out correctly that few people like smoking just for becoming chemically addicted. Then again, I might say that the smoke itself is tasty (it is, of course, an acquired taste!), and these days, you really won't "impress anyone" by starting to smoke since it's so politically incorrect to do so...

@SandraLopes but at least the processed food consists of some nutrition, maybe not much but allot more than cigerettes & less addictive for most, the main reason why people start is to try to impress others not because they want to become a longterm slave to smoke & chemicals.
