At the NY Uke Fest 2009, May 31, Gershwin Hotel, 101-year-old jazz master Bill Tapia explains how he first learned to play ukulele at age seven back around 1915. Incredibly, he bought his first uke from the very inventor of the ukulele, Manuel Nunes (Portuguese immigrant to Hawaii). He is prompted to tell his story by Hawaiian star Mihana. Also on stage are Gordon Valesco (between Bill and Mihana), Pat Enos and Deni Bonet.
