@matt: It was a very hot day and all the favorites were saving energy for the climb to alpe d'huez one day later. Because of that, the tempo before the mont ventoux was were slow and poli could gan so much time.

My memories of Climbing up Mt Ventoux, which I climbed in 1998 while living/ bike touring in Europe.

A youngish Marco Pantanni with some hair appears!

One of my favorite italian riders " Eros Poli" who is 6'4" or 194cm like me and who does well in this stage which was unusual.
