Hmmm... I wonder what effect an unstable Pakistan will have on the US attempt to bring 'stability' to the region?

So ask your self why is Pakistan such a failure? Why Pakistani's abroad lag behind the Indians and Chinese in education?
Why British born Pakistani men want to become suicide bombers?
Even the Chinese are starting to get worried about Pakistan.
Pakistans arch rival and enemy India is also doing extremely well in terms of economic development and scientific innovation research, i.e Space programme and the nifty little TATA nano car.

Bhutto when took over as the Prime Minister his team of economists gave him a rough estimate about the industrial production, & income which wasnt found in Pakistani banks. Bhutto in a public speech addressed the industrial class & ordered them to bring back the money they had illegally moved out. About 25% amount returned but Bhutto wasnt satisfied. A constitutionally authoritative public account committee needs to do this job and take Pakistan out of the financial crisis it is in since 1947.

To all the doom Sayers
just remember that Pakistan's economy has never been in rescission since 1951.
So you can say Pakistan is collapsing all you want, just remember that the economy is actually growing and has been growing every year since 51.

Hi Kashif,
Looks to me like a chicken and egg situation. The more the instability and insecurity issues due to any factor (internal strife, US-policy, economy), the more the army spokesmen appear to make statements on Indian aggression - Like you said, the army needs to portray India as the aggressor - whatever the situation- in an attempt to keep the country united. Of course, any Indian statement during this time, however unlikely or unbelievable, plays into Pakistan Army hands.

Peace with India is possible as serious deterioration in economy and finance will force Pak's hand. Survival is more important than ideology. Always!
As to why Pak leadership and analysts hate India, note that: (a) Pakistan has almost always been a dictatorship, and (b) Pakistanis as a people do not constitute a nation in conventional sense. This means that Pak leadership does not reflect the will of people and had to invent an "anti-India, anti-Hindu" ideology to try to forge a nation.

I agree Pakistan is facing unprecedented financial and economic crisis and that "middle class has been wiped out." There is no question that Pak needs to make a radical U-turn. There has to be (a) peace with India to free up defense spending for economic development, (b) dismantlement of Jihadi-madrassa infrastructure to eliminate domestic terrorism and encourage foreign investment, and (c) introduction of a progressive educational system that emphasis engagement with the modern world.
