The permits were for the construction department in my City (Sammamish, WA). It took quite a while to educate the permit desk about the difference between a commercial cell tower and a ham tower. There was an exception in the laws to cover hams so that we don't need to go through the zoning variance process. Nobody had ever used the loophole before. In the end, I had to get a general purpose construction permit to cover the foundation and the engineering of the tower. Nothing for the FAA or FCC.

HI just watch your video very nice, could you tell me how you interfaced the amp with the 897D, I have the 897D and am attempting to interface the fl2100B. someone help ive tried everywhere.

It was two pieces to interface the 897 to the SB200. First, the amp has -125 volts on the original keying interface which does not work with the 897. I used the SoftKey kit from Harbach to fix this. Second, I use the 897 with a cat cable to the computer and HRD. I use the key circuit on the CAT port to trigger the amp so I built a cat port cable that splits out the key line, but sends the rest through. It has a female mini-din on one end and a male on the other with a RCA plug on the key line.

What state you live in, and I ask because that's a lot of months for permits?

Also, threw what did you need the permits, aren't ham towers over 200ft when you need a FCC permit ?

Another SB-200 user! I just made up a simple switching system to key the -125 volts, a 12V relay with a transistor, a couple diodes and a resistor, and a connector for the accesory socket so that when the PTT or key is pressed, the transistor is gated, the relay is energised and the linear gets switched in. This way, the -125V is isolated from my rig completely.

It's a great old linear, built like a tank, easy to fix when it goes wrong. Nice station you have there! 73 de Perry G0IFI
