Arista records gave a night of celebration for the artists that they have signed over the years, Whitney, (Mariah, I think) Annie Lennox were all performing but Clive Davis who was the founder said that after hearing Aretha Franklin, he went hom,e and said, I have just signed the best singer in the wolrd.

Not really. Diana was still a perfectly coiffed and jeweled Supreme when Aretha gave this performance. While Diana has always had to rely on a diverse bag of gimmicks to entertain in addition to her music, all Aretha ever had to was sing. The rest fell into place.
