Soldano Avenger 100 vs. Cornford MK50h

Both are excellent choices but the Avenger has the circuit from the SLO 100. I have yet to hear a high gain amp with the note clarity of the Soldano. I've had the opportunity to use Diezel's, Engl's, Dr. Z's, etc....and I would still say Soldano is the king in high gain territory.
Basically still the benchmark by which others are judged.

Soldano maybe a tiny, tiny but more mid-range. Impossible to tell if not there in person though! People don't understand that these clips are just a rough approximation

They both sound similar, but the Soldano has a little more low-end focus.

I tried a SLO and a Cornford (MK50?) a few years ago at Solidbody Guitar in MN and while they were both very nice amps, there was something about the Cornford that just didn't jive with my playing style. Very nice and refined sounding amps though:)
The SLO had a little more mojo, or something to that effect, but still I've played other amps that I enjoyed more.
I guess I'm more of a modded Marshall type of guy. Friedman, Cameron, etc. also had great luck with Bogner, Diezel, (some) Boogies

@mikeallenpugh 5-) And finally, enjoy your Dr Z. I'm sure it's great. And good chance I might not like it as much as MK. Which doesn't make it bad. Although I generally like tube amps and don't hate on them like a 5 year old. Cause I know a good player can make 99% of tube amps sound good. If it doesn't happen, good chance it's the player and not the amp ;) That goes for you, and me, and everyone else.
Take care now.

@mikeallenpugh 4-) I had two MK50's at once at some point. One was nice and warm and full sounding as they mostly do. The other was brittle and thin like you said. I opened it up. Biased it hotter and it sounded as good or better than the other one. If you don't think biasing makes a difference, please stop playing tube amps.

@mikeallenpugh 1-) If everyone liked the same kind of tone, there would be only 1 amp.
2-) The amp you bought and love in place of Cornford is nothing like Cornford. Apples and oranges. That's why you didn't like Cornford in the first place.
3-) I love MK50 but I hate Govan's tone. That doesn't make MK50 bad. That makes his tone not suitable to my taste.

@8rk Naaa, afraid not. Same as my mate who's a fantastic player. He's dropped using it and now sits as an expensive doorstop. If Lord Govan sounds 'brittle and boxey' through one then there's no hope! ;)

@mikeallenpugh user error. next! :)

I had a MK50 MKII head and I played it through so many cabs (including Cornford 2x12 and 4x12). The result - still sounded like boxey spikey shite with no warmth. Sold it and bought a Dr Z Maz 38 NR and threw some pedals in front of it. Job done!
IDK they sound pretty much identical imo.
Which ever one is less expensive I would go with.
