This is RARE footage from the very early stages of MTV's sister station VH1....And hosting videos for 2 hours was none other than "MILES DAVIS"
Featuring FOLEY ( his then sidekick , guitarist ? & partner in crime ) A CLASSIC MOMENT IN TELEVISON

  • I would love to see the performance they did in the studio that was never aired. Maybe Kip knows where it is in the vaults. It would be great if they sold it and those performances with Dizzy, Scofield, Santana, etc. as CDs. They'd make a fortune, and the public--especially the younger ones--wouldn't be so in the dark about their music history.

  • @Streamline09

There was never a performance. maybe you're thinking of "Night Music" ?

MILES & FOLEY only played videos for 2hrs , that was it....sorry

  • @SmartalecFILMS Yes, I have this original program on tape (as well as Night Music) and you're right, there wasn't a performance. I took a guess from the way he referred to Foley off-camera and how when Foley was on camera on the program, he had his unplugged lead bass with him, that there may have been a performance (common with many of the other musical hosts) that simply was never aired. Only Foley would know :-) Thanks for your reply and once again for presenting this material.

  • @postatility His misanthropism is a myth. Read "Miles" in his own words. It's his autobiography from 1989.

  • Can you imagine? They used to have GUTS on TV. Once upon a time, that is...

  • I love seeing Miles in an alert, vivid, happy mood. Check out the AMAZING Bill Boggs interwiew on Bill Boggs dot com. You'll watch Miles discover a very young Joey DeFrancesco live on air! ("Who's your organ player?!?")

  • coffee anyone ?

  • His clothing designer from Philadelphia that he mentioned, Patrick D. Bushnell, died back in 1999 at the age of 46.

  • This clip keeps me the impression that Miles was actually much friendlier and enjoyable to be with than many people were led to believe.
