after 9/11, the mainland born chinese flocked to flushing. unfortunately littering has gotten worse. FAR worse.
there is no more diversity, the mainland Chinese spit on the street, pick their nose, fart in public leading to many, many hostile confrontations with chinese from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other Asians. The HK chinese apparently are sick of their "hillbilly" cousins.

Flushing has been a smelly, rude place for a long time but at least the stores were better in the 90's...We used to have Barnes & Noble, Woolworth, Caldor, Dr. Jays, Coconuts, The Wiz, Main St. Collectibles, Chamoleon's, Gloria's Pizza, Entertainment World, the original Busy Bee Mall...Now those places are gone and have been replaced by mostly bubble tea shops, banks or fish markets...This place is really fucking lame now...

Ugh Flushing is a horrible place to live now. You can barely walk down the street without getting bumped into. It always smells like rotted vegetables. If your not Asian theres absolutely no place to shop. I feel like an outsider in my own hometown.

Born and raised in Flushing, going to Woolworths on Main Street was always great. They had the best cheescake! Going downstairs to check out the toy dept was always fun. Thanks for the memories!

@lauls85 ... and now Old Navy had move to sky view center
Thanks so much for posting this. The food court especially brought back some great memories. It was sad to see such a historic fixture of downtown Flushing go.

It was a lunch counter, standard for Woolworth's. Food courts are inventions of suburban malls, the very things that helped put your downtown Woolworth out of business.
