actually, not to be a smartarse, stephenie meyer wrote a paragraph or so about what happened in that event. It was actually edward imitating carlisle's voice, because rosalie phoned him and told him bella was dead. you can find the passage on stephenie's site.

edward was the one calling the house pretending to be carlisle. because when alice came back she told bella what he did hence why they went to italy.

OKay I LOVE twilight although it is SOOOO mean for Edward to leave BELLA like that. But it is sSOOO sweet for him to kill himself when he thinks BELLA is dead although he should have checked in with Charlie first. Jacob is soo stupid to think that BELLA is anything more then a best friend. Really get over yourself.

Maybe you should actually READ New Moon. He did check in w/ Charlie. Jacob answered the phone .. and said that Charlie was at a funeral (which was Harry Clearwaters). Edward assumed he meant Bella..
