  • i dont give a rats ass what happened to it. I STILL THINK IT WOULD BE THE COOLEST FRIGGEN THING EVAR!!! to see that thing soaring through the air like an airplane.

  • @BlackSpark13 Language !

  • This is from the film: "Farewell" from director Gerard Nijssen from the Netherlands. It's all footage from the 1920's-1930's. It's an amazing film. It mixes films of different things to gether, like it shows the Graff Zepelin & the Hindenburg next to each other (the Hindenburg was finished in 1936, it wasn't even a concept in 1929). The image from 3:24-3:38 is actually the USS Los Angeles in 1927 performing a combat drill and and going through a smoke screen. fascinating stuff nevertheless!

  • @paqman67 Gerard does a great job for many years in researching suitable vintage film material. I was amazed by the clarity of the old film material. He visited me after it was shown on Dutch TV with subtitles whereas mine is without.

  • I saw a photo of the Graf trying to dock with the mooring at the Empire State Building in 1931. Is there film of that? I know the idea was abandoned because of the insane winds up there but the photo (I hope it was real and not a fake) is pretty spectacular, as is this video.

  • @elgatonyc Sorry, I have no further info about the Graf.

  • @elgatonyc Yes, that is actually real! The 86th-102nd floors of Empire State Building were to be the headquarters of the American Zeppelins and the top of the Empire (without the broadcasting tower which was built in 1953) was to be the dock where passengers and the like would board and disembark. Would have been such an amazing place to board a Zeppelin, don't you think? :D

  • @AryanKnight No problem! The film mixes so many things, that is why the film-maker referred it as a "Fictiomentary", which is a mixture of history and real footage. The film has footage of the Graf with the Hindenburg(!) side-to-side inside their sheds, which would really only have taken place in 1936-1937 and not in 1929. They also show Nazi troops at a train station (1933 on would make sense) The stoway (19-year-old Clarence Terhune hid himself on board the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin airship in 1928)

  • @paqman67 <----------yes, --i do believe you may well be correct, which is obviously why i had removed my comment.!!

  • @silvereagle2061 It's entirely possible, to fly for the sake of flying as opposed to the aerial transit buses we are crammed into today. It wouldn't be cheap, but neither is a cruise on the QE2 or QM2 - but folks go for that over a Carnival or Norwegian discount cruise on a ship with 7000 guests all on top of one another. Yes, it is a definite possibility.

  • @AryanKnight I have the orifginal film from that scene, I have most of the films of the USS Los Angeles, besidessince the Nazis took control of Germany in 1933 and not 1929, why would the Graf hve any Swastikas on it's tail before then? If you look at prior to the time you mentiuon, there are absolutely no swastikas to be found on the Graf Zeppelin anywhere.
