@Bullettube James Madison the father of the Constitution was a slave holder.To his credit he hated slavery but did not release his own slaves.So try again.

If this is what you were taught in school, your former history teacher should be flogged, hanged and quartered! The 13 former colonies were made states under the Constitution, they gave up their sovereignty to form a NATION. Every State acknowledge the indisputable power of the Federal government to make laws through Congress according to the Liberties enshrined in the Constitution. One of those liberties was freedom, as in no slavery for anyone.

whats the name of the movie?

@wmarcus1203 - Oh, my - "the cause."

@paintballKid545 The civil war is about states rights and secession. It is very important that we have the liberty to secede. Getting rid of slavery wasnt a priority, kinda like we invaded Iraq for WMD's but cause there were no WMD's we are there to "liberate" the iraqi people.. It was just used to gain more centralized power for the Federal government

@wmarcus1203 how is slavery liberty
-
Liberty will rise again

Yeah but then they realised that there was a very real risk (which many would argue has happened since) that with such a large geographical area with lots of different cultures present that a centralised government would pose them the exact same problem as they had just fought the war of ind to escape from - people making decisions on how they live their lives from far away who know little of their individual circumstances.they didn't want to simply get rid of london for washington

@GoldenbanjoDJ I think you're mistaken on this. The Articles of Confederation came about almost simultaneously with the Dec of Indep. The colonies united in a Continental Congress before there were any States and the intent from the very beginning was to form a nation, not a group of independent states. They all gained independence from Britain together.
-
following the war of independence each state established themselves as sovereign states, not a single nation, is what i meant by that. sorry looking back it was a bit of a pants way of describing what i meant
That movie ranks among the very best war movies ever filmed. This particular scene is my favourite, especially because of the powerful music. This combination gives me goosebumps!

This should have been called Pickett's Trimble's and Pettigrews Charge. Pettigrew especially was right up there with his men, having taken over Heth's bloodied division after the brigadere suffered a head wound. Pettigrew survived both the heavy fighting on McPhereson's Ridge on July 1. Then the July 3 charge (where his hand wounded) only to be killed at a rear guard action at Falling Waters two weeks later. Union Genl John Gibbon, whose position he attacked, was his cousin.
