@MovingUpp YOU NEVER WOULD EVER PUT A SWITCH ON AN ALTERNATOR CAUSE THE MAGNETIC FIELD GENERATED BY THE ALTERNATOR WOULD COLLAPSE BACK INTO ITSELF AND CAUSE A LARGE BACKWARDS FLOW OF CURRENT INTO THE ALTERNATORS DIODE PACK AND DESTROY IT.

You can also look at it like plumbing. Voltage is like the water pressure, Amperage is like the amount of water flowing through the pipe per second, and Watts is the power of that water flowing; the potential work it can do. Watts is sort of like horsepower.

I'm interested in adding extra alternators to my old dodge van with extra batteries to run a powerful amp and my power converter. Do you know how I would go about putting a switch between the battery and devices? Would I just break the ground? I heard you can't put a switch on the positive. I don't want these devices constantly sucking power.

boy I'm late getting back to you. If I understand you correctly, you can get a high amperage dc switch or switching circuit breaker.
Some switches are suitable for DC and AC, but make sure it specs that it's suitable for DC.
that's what I did for the amp in my car.
I'm sure it's better for the electronics to put a switch on the negative, but my little 600w amp is fine, and I've been running it for over a year now.
