Development shot of the new terrain system in medea.js (https://github.com/acgessler/medea.js), a WebGL-based Javascript 3D engine that runs in every modern browser, with no plugins required. The terrain is incrementally streamed from the server and rendered with adaptive LOD levels. The system can be easily extended to support arbitrary terrain sizes (i.e. real world data). In this video it's 'only' a 4k heightmap, though.

Video taken with Chrome 15.0.874.121 on Windows7 with a Radeon HD 5850.
