Gabapentin (Neurontin) was initially approved to assist with the treatment of seizures, but these days 90% of the time it's used off-label for other problems. What is its role in the treatment of chronic pain?

If you haven't seen it already, please also see our video Gabapentin (Neurontin) - Part 1 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3LeYF4mCIY

  • @Naraxsus I have tried this combo unfortunately as with everything I have tried I build a resistance within 1-2 weeks. I have found some relief with low dose Amitriptyline used to treat Fybromyalgia. It has taken my daily pain level from an 7/8 down to a 3/4 which is a huge relief but still present.

  • @bonzaibb12 Have you tried Ultram (Tramadol) yet? Depending on what type of pain you are suffering from Ultram can help you much more than Vicodin. Also depending on your opiate resistance. If you have a high resistance to opiates, Ultram can outshine Vicodin. Even if you have no resistance to opiates Ultram will usually work better. Remember that it depends on what type of pain you are suffering from and resistance. Ask your PCP for Ultram/50mg and Ibuprofen/800mg. It works wonders.

  • My doctor just started me on these pills, 300mg ig322-gabapentin. What family of pills are they from? I need to know before I start taking them.

  • @rpm642 search google for "snake oil" and Neurontin...

  • A federal judge found that there is no scientifically reliable evidence that Neurontin/gabapentin treats general neuropathic pain... This was the result of a five week trial.

  • So why did my Dr give me Vicadin and Gabapentin if the Gabapentin reduces the effectiveness of the Vicadin which I need the most right now.

  • By the time I recognize I'm looped, I am already annoyed with it and ready to be done with it. Unfortunately the medicine will have no part in going away or even easing up. I cannot drive ( I wouldn't even attempt it.), and I feel stupid just melting into the furniture. I cannot wait to be done with this medicine, although I could see how some ppl might enjoy the effects I am experiencing,..lol Keep this stuff away from our youth--Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL I must be one of the lucky ones that gets that effect you hinted about,..lol I'm taking it under doctors orders until my appt with neurosurgery at the end of this month. I told my doctor about it today; While I was in pain it had no affect on me, but since the pain eased up the medication is making me quite " loopy". Normally I might like it, but for some reason it is annoying me to no end to feel like this. It seems to hit a level and STAY THERE for hours!
