  • what do you get for gas mileage with the 5.3? just wondering

  • Around 16 to 18 mpg in the city and about 26-30 on the highway. Hard acceleration will give you 1 mpg though :)

  • what? they are front wheel?

  • Yeah, they are.

  • @xbr733 are you serious..... apples to oranges is comparing a sport bike to a car. both v8's the coyote flows much better its newer and its more advanced. the problem is the 5.3 doesnt have the displacement advantage that is needed by an ohv motor when going against a tri valve or quad valve motor due to the superior ability to flow air with more valves, simple yea

  • @zeteclover The 5.0 Coyote has a dohc valve train with valve tming...The 5.3 has an ohv / pushrod valve train your comparing apples to oranges

  • nice car man.

  • @zeteclover yeah you are right. Our drag car will go trhough about 1 gallon on the quarter mile. But it is a performace big block 454. a small 1.9 turbo Cruze quarter mile im positive wouldnt get worse than 5mpg

  • @ibold1000

No, if you have the throttle pinned you won't get 10 mpg. Even in a 4 cylinder econobox, driving in first gear at 5000 rpm won't get you 10 miles per gallon. There are two main reasons for poor acceleration economy: the engine is taking as much gas as it can use to make more powerful combustion, and it's also winding itself out to high rpms relative to vehicle speed. 5000 rpm driving in 1st gear in an econobox won't even get you 10 mpg; the engine spins too fast for such a low speed.

303 for a 5.3 isn't anything to scoff at, and I won't be the Ford fan to freak out on a Chevy video (partially because I like Impalas), but Ford's 5.0 in the Mustang has 109 more horsepower with .3L less displacement. I know they're built for different things, and that the engine in the Impala is right from Chevy's truck line, but the 5.0 is about as efficient as it gets for American naturally aspirated mass production engines.

  • ok one question my girl friends mom just got a 08 impala ss and get terrible gas milllage from what she said but i was wantin to know if it supercharger or does it have a turbo?

    or neither

  • niiiiccee 5.3 liters with a little over 300 hp. True chevy efficiency

  • with it being said, it's front wheel drive, but it is one of the fastes front drive cars avaliable, still wish it were rear wheel though. of well
