Kiva is changing the world through microfinancing. Kiva allows people to lend as low as $25 directly to the poor, and get your money back.
You too can be a banker to the poor.

  • Hah-- very good! What software did you use?

    --Ramon

  • The one that was installed on my machine - Window's movie maker.

  • I know the words go too fast. I used a free program (this really is my first video). Feel free to recommend a good software movie making program.

  • Kiva is a scam. Your money doesn't go to the people as advertised, it goes to a credit company that charges people "such as" the featured person a rate of around 25% interest. Most of the people featured have already been given loans.

It's true. Pictures of starving children really do sell rock albums.

  • @tempesurfing, 4. There is Al-Thiqa Organisation in Iraq, they are an Iraqi NGO. 5. There is Hofokam, founded by the Catholic Church in Western Uganda 6. there is ARD in Sierra Leone, a NGO. I really do hope you rejoin Kiva. If you do not want to donate to Kiva or the microfinancing intitutions but to small entrepreneurs only select one of those organisations and set the donation to Kiva section to "0,00 (not this time)".

  • @tempesurfing, 3. there is Nor Horizon UCO LLC, they were started by Oxfam who obviously provided them with a Fund, the Horizon Fund. Because of a change in Armenian law they were forced to become a firm, a Limited, but they still do not charge the entrepreneurs any fees.

  • @tempesurfing, 2. there is LAPO Sierra Leone who were until now funded by LAPO Nigeria. LAPO stands for Lift above Poverty Organisation. I personally would expect them to charge fees later on because if they do that full time they have to feed themselves, too. You can contact them to find out.

  • @tempesurfing, I understand your concerns. I have viewed a list of current Kiva field partners. There are currently six organisations who do not charge fees for their work. They are: 1. MCC Molbulat Finance LLC in Kyrgyzstan - they appear to be a regular bank who do some pro bono kiva loans as well. There is a presentation video on youtube obviously made for regular customers (title: Mol Bulak Finance - Presentation)

  • who told you kiva distribute your money to supposed NGOs? You got it wrong yourself.

Microfinance institutions all aim at being sustainable..; which means earn money / don't depend on donation

  • I have received some of my money back and so have my friends and relatives. Who cares? This organization takes OUR money and then gives it to supposed NGOs (who are supposed to be nonprofits) to distribute to the borrowers. However, the NGOs charge the borrowers lending fees and interest on OUR money. It is OUR money. If we wanted to charge interest, then we would, and we would get the interest.

  • Well done! I'm proud to be a Kiva member and I thank you for this great video that you share with the world. I hope it bring awarness and inspiration.

  • Kiva is GREAT - an outstanding idea. HOWEVER, the registration page at their web site is not encrypted, putting your password in clear text and creating a risk of identity theft to those who register. Please please please fix this Kiva, so that I and others can register and participate securely!!

  • Awesome - Kiva will help us all change the world. Thanks for inspiring me to lend even more!
