Fun facts:
* Pirates did not usually cut throats and throw men overboard. Normally, they held the captive crew for ransom. Ransom makes more booty. Why kill what you can profit from?
* When pirates raid a ship, they often take the ship, too. They gut it and outfit it with more artillery and sails to make it more evasive and powerful. This is the world's earliest known example of "pimping one's ride".

However, pirates did not tolerate disloyalty.
Those who betray the captain get the punishment called mooring, where they are given a "gun, some water, and a rowboat". They are cast off to fend for themselves.

i think that there wasnt just the jolly rodger flag.
Pirate crews had different flags to make them identifiable, but the jolly rodger became the most popular flag.

That's true. The pirate flag had no standard, all pirates used their own. Everyone used their own. Collectively, pirate flags are called "Jolly Roger".
In fact, when a pirate approached a ship, they would hoist a national flag to trick the victim into sailing by without suspicion... then, they would hoist their flag and raid the ship.
