Tibetan New Year 2009 - Losar

Today, 25 February 2009 is Tibetan New Year - Losar.

This, however, is a very poignant year in Tibetan history as it marks some 60 years of Chinese occupation and will see the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising (in Lhasa on 10 March 1959) where some 80,000 people lost their lives.

In hommage to the 1.2 million people who have fallen during this period and in solidarity for the Tibetans still living in oppression, Tibet has requested there be no festivities to mark Losar this year. Normally a festival of celebration, Tibet ask we observe this occasion with sobriety, reflection and empathy for their people still in exile.

Please join me and others worldwide in lighting a candle today for Tibet and sending our prayers to this magnificent nation that it may soon be at peace and free from tyranny.

Why would the magnificent peoples of multi-national unitary state of China who worked for national unification of China and equality, prosperity, harmony, and freedom from cruel and unusual punishments in Tibetan areas know less about peace, happiness, democracy, and freedom from tyranny than foreign supported Tibetan political dissidents or misinformed and uninformed Free Tibet victims, assassins, and propagandists?

JoolzBeth, Thank you for your support for Tibet. Great video. Wish this was uploaded in the new high res HQ youtube format. I was in Lhasa a couple of months ago and the level of military presence is amazing and extremely tense with Tibetans ready to rise up again. There will be freedom in Tibet because Tibetans in Tibet are determined to make a change.
