On Thursday April 14th 2011, Team Hall & Nass got hammered by a large freak hail storm for 20 straight minutes just outside of Dallas, Texas. We had a brand new 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible on loan from GM sitting outside of our house. It was a car we used the previous weekend as a parade car at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, driving Jamie McMurray around the track before the race. We had it for the following week to do a media review, then delivering it to the dealer afterward

The hail began as pea sized, then progressed to a mix of quarter to golf ball sized hail. It accumulated 2-3" on the ground to the point it looked like a winter scene by the time it was over.

In an effort to save the new $43,000 Camaro from sustaining hail damage on our watch, we parked it tight up against the house and covered it in wardrobe boxes, an inflatable kiddie pool, two inflatable mattresses, and other cardboard boxes we grabbed out of our already full or cars & toys garage. Unfortunately, the only way to secure the box on the side of the car away from the house was for me to stand out in the hail storm and lean against the car during the storm.

I held a piece of cardboard over my head to try to protect my skull from the pounding hail. My hands and my body took a pretty bad beating. Since my phone was getting soaking wet in my pocket, I decided to use it to film the chaos hoping it would live long enough to capture the moment. It did just that, lasting long enough to film it all, then dying later that night.

The good news is we miraculously saved the car from receiving any damage. A pure miracle when you consider the bad news. My personal 4th Generation Camaro Z28, parked just around the corner, paid the price of saving the new Camaro. It sustained serious hail damage on every metal surface. Seeing how badly it got beat tells us just how bad the new one would have looked had we not gone to extremes to save it.

My fingers are still in pain and my body is bruised all over three nights later. We hope you at least enjoy the video. It's pure Team Hall & Nass automotive insanity in a completely different format. One we don't recommend anyone trying at home. We just hope Chevrolet appreciates our extreme efforts!
