Hello Cupcakes,
Yesterday in a state of pure bliss, I posted THIS election reaction video to youtube. The video as it says is not about race or politics, or even your opinion of President Elect Barack Obama. The video is about reaching for your personal best to shatter your own glass ceilings whether you fear reaching for your goals because you are too black, white, fat, skinny, etc.
To my genuine surprise, immediately the ignoramuses and racists came out of their thin closets and started posting ON YOUTUBE the most hateful comments that I have ever read about assassinating Obama, me being a "monkey bitch," seeking fried chicken in every pot and other things to hateful too repeat.
I was undecided about how to react, so my intern deleted the most hateful of the comments at first. I was originally going to allow the dialog and free exchange to take place and then I decided that my blog, videos, and content are not a democracy, and I will never allow anything under my watch to become a billboard and hotbed for negativity and hatred. When it became too intensely horrific, I closed off comments for a couple of hours, and then opened them back up. The insane thing is that the video has nothing to do with the political discussion that was also taking place amongst the commenters. Comments on the youtube video are now closed, and we have deleted the worst of them. Enough.
John McCain, Sarah Palin supporters and neo-cons, I understand that you are upset and afraid. I was upset and afraid in the last two (stolen) elections as well. Thats why progressives are so excited now. Try applying positive energy to be the change you wish to see, instead of spewing hatred. AND I do understand that these people do NOT reflect everyone. They were just the most vocal. Many lovely McCain supporters subscribe to this blog, and are my colleagues.
This blog, Abiola & The Goddess Factory, is about, at the heart of everything, love. All kinds of love - self-love, romantic love, beautiful and skanky love. So although we may disagree, if you agree to play nicely, you are welcome here. The comments about me being "a nigger bitch" and worse that were posted do make me sad, but I in no way internalize your fears. I am stronger than your hate, and so are my beautiful friends of every American color and every global nationality.
When someone gives you a gift and you do not accept it, to whom does it belong? This is what I feel about your negativity.
