I realize that you posted this 10 months ago, but the DOT approved helmets have a thick foam that gives a goofy mushroomhead look. Non DOT helmets don't have nearly as much foam, so the German helmet looks more legit. Is it safer? Not at all. Does it look better, yup.

You can buy other ones on ebay for another $30 that ARE DOT APPROVED!
