I am not picking on Galileo but the freedom of conscience of the supposed Italian Civilization.

The freedom of opinion, freedom of choice, conscience, are fundamental democratic values but these values have been persecuted by the Catholic inquisition since before the Italian National Unification, and later persecuted by Mussolini (and the Italian Republic) since now.

Can you answer, how did the catholic heresies (+the democratic values) have become catholic intellectual tradition?
