Compiz Fusion on Your Desktop : Howto Ubuntu

It's easy when you enable the desktop effects through Compiz Fusion, and I made a quick tutorial will to show you how. If you don't know, Compiz "aims to provide an easy and fun-to-use windowed environment, allowing use of the graphics hardware to render each individual window and the entire screen, to provide some impressive effects, speed and usefulness."

Here's how you get started:

First we will enable Compiz by going to System-----Preferences------Appearance----Visual Effects and choosing the "Extra" radio button.

Then we will open a terminal and install ccsm..

EDIT: Known bug and FIX with Computer: Intel 2.5Ghz, NVidia GeForce 8400 Ubuntu 9.04 x64 Compiz 0.8.2

For the cube, the settings sometimes are not changed in the compiz file and must be done manually:
Run gconf-editor (alt+f2)
Change:
/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/hsize: 4
and
/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/number_of_desktops: 1

What version of Ubuntu are you running? I'm running 11.10 and I don't have "System Preferences and Appearance" I have "System Settings" then Appearance, which has very limited options. How do I make my computer exactly like yours? You make it look so easy, but it never works.

thats bcause 11.10 has a unity interface, u can also try to go to the ubuntu store and check out for compiz and it will be as a program
