I was part of a student responce team called reachout tuscaloosa and we stayed in an elementary school beside an old foortball stadium I was rebuildin houses and repairing roofs and we had alot of people there in gulfport were from tuscaloosa alabama
-Starts crying- Yes, I stayed for Katrina. I stayed in my Dads Work office. It was so scary. I live In Diamondhead MS, a town VERY close to Gulfport. My house had 9 holes and water damage. My brothers house flooded. In the building I was in was flooding. I am not even 15 yet. I was terrified. Hurricane Katrina effected us in a terrible way, but most of us a coming up strong. God Bless all of my other Katrina go-throughers. God Bless South Mississippi.

It must've been a very scary experience... seeing the devastation, I couldn't even fathom the kind of terror you must have felt. But, at the same time, it was heartening to see all the goodwill that came pouring into the area from private citizens... and how strong-willed and determined the folks were in the Gulfcoast area. They are my heros. God bless everyone in South Mississippi.

I live right down the highway from Gulfport. I remember some of those things at the beginning of the slide. As time is passing on its getting hard for me to remember where things were or what they were. I remember right after or months after the storm I would have like little pics, almost like a video, going threw my head, remembering where things were. But then they started taking things down n it was almost like a ghost town along the beach.

I just got back from a mission trip to gulfport one day ago. it was very eye opening. so many good people lost everything but thankfully there are amazing people who come from all parts of the country to help rebuild the city.
