Barbara (Monique Serf, 1930-1997)
(Barbara à l'Atelier 1954)

The years Barbara spend in Belgium in the '50s where she participated in an active artistic community, are rather unknown to the public.
But thanks to a close friend of Barbara, Jacques Vynckier, there were recordings made of her rehearsal for a performance later that particular evening in October.
On October 1st, 1954, she performed at the workshop of Marcel Hastir. Her husband Claude Sluys, with his numerous relations, was the inspirator behind this and other performances. However, her one and only recording in Belgium on a Decca label (1957, Mon pote le gitan" et "L'Oeillet blanc") is the result of this performance at l' Atelier.

From the songs Vynckier recorded you hear "L'avenir est aux autres" and "La promenade", lyrics by Sluys, music by Barbara.
They appeared on the cd "Barbara à l'atelier, Bruxelles 1954"

Curieuses, ces chansons ! Au début, ça sonne (à la voix) comme du Mireille... "Paroles de Claude Sluys" : son mari à l'époque. Merci pour ce partage rare !!!
