Do we really need to drink 2 litres of water every day on top of our normal daily liquid consumption? Twins are put to the test to answer the question.

  • Thanks for that! very helpful, some people go mad guzzling all that water down on a daily basis. I must tell my wife's sis about this...she's one of them.

    P.S. still doing well F>O>B>

  • good for you well done.. :) smile and have a nice day

  • Thank you. Your post and the BBC link settled a discussion we've had many time at my house. My husband was right and I was wrong. Now, I'll stop feeling guilty about drinking the coffee and skipping the water!

  • lol well im living proof, I do drink water if I'm thirsty and its a hot day and I feel like drinking water but I dont make it a priority and my skin is fine...I'm told all the time I have nice skin 'for my age arrrrggg I hate when they add that'

  • LOL but you are so right, I kind of figured it out myself a long time ago too. I drink a lot of tea and some water etc, etc, and it definitely adds up to at least 2 liters. So there's my daily requirement - can you imagine if I drank another 2 liters on top of it all --> I would never get out of the bathroom.

  • 3rdly, the scientist might have a biased and self-serving reasoon to do this experiment and not talk about it's drawbacks--as any academic must do--this is a well known part of the scientific method in writing theses. 4ly, oprah would talk about this because her show needs ratings and this "fact" (about not needing as much water to drink) will be something "new" that her show brings, thereby "educating" people. so, folks, please be critical and don't take things at face value. Thank you.

  • i'm dissapointed that someone is spreading this myth: that we don't need to drink 2 litres of water. People should know that one study is not enough to prove that we don't need to drink water. the twin study, which i think the oprah show talked about, has low validity. first of all the twins were drinking enough (equal) amounts of water ,and one week w/o water won't show the harsh effects of dehydration. 2ndly, there are numerous scientific facts that prove otherwise.

  • I don't drink bottled water, stupid plastic bottles litter this world.I don't drink tap water, all water I consume is boiled and enjoyed with god knows how many cups of coffee a day.

All them people I pass in the street clutching

their bottled water how sad they look.

Their the ones that preach about saving the planet I suppose. SHEEP.

    RANT RANT RANT.............................

  • From Andrew Weil: a 2007 British Medical Journal study re the myth of drinking 8 glasses/day:

"...researchers who conducted the study could find no clinical evidence to support this notion. ... You do need to be well hydrated, but research suggests that the liquids most people drink daily - juice, milk, and decaffeinated beverages - will do the trick. Your best bets are purified water, diluted fruit juice, tea, and sparkling water flavored with fruit juice."

  • my moms one of these people

  • You don't need to drink 2 litres of water to be beautiful. I've said it once and i'll say it again, you are stunning.
