Mounted to the exterior of the building, Bluerain's 23,580 individual LEDs will link to The London School of Economics Library's catalog search engine, illuminating three simultaneously scrolling electric blue feeds projected to the public outside the building: 1) current online searches; 2) titles currently being checked out of the library; and 3) titles being checked in. Bluerain is designed to function not only as a work of art but also as a point of reference to reveal the library location. The controller and data translation software and hardware were created by MakingThings, a San Francisco based creative firm. This project uses less power than a 50 watt lightbulb!
