This is from the final full rehearsal for Trooping the Colour - called the Colonel's Review - held in London on 5 June 2010.

This is the march along The Mall back to Buckingham Palace which concludes the trooping ceremony on Horse Guards Parade.

The Household Cavalry are at the front along with the mounted bands of The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals.

Then come the bands of the Brigade of Guards comprising five military bands, with the drums and fifes from the Grenadier and Welsh Guards at the rear. The massed bands strike up with Robert Browne Hall's march General Mitchell at 01:38 as they approach Buckingham Palace.

At the head of the foot guards is HRH Prince Philip, Colonel of the Grenadier Guards. Following is the colour that has been trooped, this year that of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

Following are Grenadiers from The Queen's Company, No. 2 Company, the Inkerman Company, and the Nijmegen Company. There are also guards from the Scots and Coldstream Guards.

The route liners, first on parade and last to leave on a sweltering day, were provided this year by the Irish and Grenadier Guards.

  • Dear friends, could you please help me to find the notation for this wonderful march? (General Mitchell)

    Thank you

  • @chrkirschbaum Hi Christian. Ruhrig [Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music] lists three publishers: Bandleader (arr. Heming), Bovaco, and Gay (1889). BovacoMusic has a contact page on the web, but I found nothing on the others. Suggest you contact one of the bands direct e.g. Band of the Grenadier Guards, Wellington Barracks, London, SE1E 6HQ. Email: LonDistHdiv-GRENGDSBand-BSec@mod.uk. The Grenadiers Band also has a Facebook site. I am sure they will happily help. Good luck and best wishes.

  • i thought you would not leave out the Massed Bands returning up The Mall!

  • @tralens I was standing in the wrong place the previous week but was luckier at the second rehearsal. The bands look and sound magnificent here. Do you know what the mounted bands are playing at the start of this clip?

  • @thebigdrum The Mounted Bands are playing "Scarlet And Gold" which is normally played by the Foot Guards Bands. The Massed Bands are playing "General Mitchell" by R.B.Hall.

  • @tralens Thanks, tralens.
