After 25 years of service, my DX21's internal battery died. So of course the battery needed to be changed. It turns out this is a simple 10-minute repair if you can solder/desolder. You need to purchase a CR2032 battery and it has to have solder tabs. I used the Renata CR2032FH-MFR, although other companies make these. The battery was about $1.50 from Mouser.com. I'm making this video available as a public service to all DX21 owners :-) The batteries on these don't last forever although they do last a long time. HD Video available.

  • how do you reload pathches after you put the new battery in

  • @elKocho88 There are some SysEx programs for this such as Midi-Ox or Ctrlr. As a real quick summary, save the patches using the program before you change the battery. Then after the new battery is in, reload them using the program. For all the details you would have to check the program's help file. Hope this gets you started.

  • Thanks for the video.

  • @Catabolicdj Did you buy the battery with the solder tabs pre-attached or did you attach them yourself?

  • Thanks for the video.

  • @Catabolicdj What wrong with just using a USB cord? Why do you need to replace the battery?
