A small demonstration to show the sound spectrum of the BOSS OD-2R. I conciously played the distortion pedal without an amplifier to get the unaltered output sound. Of course I know that any distortion pedal sounds better when it is played through an amp!

In order to guard against simple questions concerning the operation of this pedal, I refer to the manual that you can officially download as a PDF document here:

  • I'd be more interested in the guitar it is being played on.

  • @epiloguer

It is a late 80's Fender Stratocaster, Made in Japan. Black with white three-layered pickguard, maple neck, single coil pickups. Up to now it's my only electric guitar. I played lots of guitars in the last 11 years (I used to work daily in a music shop), but this Stratocaster is among the 10 best electric guitars that I have ever laid my hands on.

  • i have this pedal but it hums alot. does anyone know the reason?

  • @haryomirsandi

Maybe the pedal is faulty, but it can have several other reasons:

    - How do you power the pedal? (Batteries or power supply? Which power supply?)

    - What guitar do you use? (Single coil pick-ups or humbucker?)

    - Do you use quality cables? (Never ever save money in the wrong place!)

    - Do other overdrive/distortion pedals hum as well? (If you HAVE other pedals of this kind)

    - Is an old PC monitor (CRT display) or other electronic devices in the near of your guitar?

  • @bondmaxbondrock

Thanks for the nice words! Have fun with your OD-2R! ;o)

  • @wwwPepeMusicDE thanks a lot!! i was deciding on this or the DN-2, and i'm definitely going with the OD-2R now!!!

also thanks for replying- usually on these demo videos i never get a reply!!

thanks again, and nice playing by the way!

  • @bondmaxbondrock

The answer is simple: the OD-2R! It's one of the finest overdrive pedals I have ever come across and it is my favourite BOSS overdrive! I work in a music shop for 11 years now and I have tested several drive pedals of many brands (not the boutique stuff, though), the Dyna Drive as well. The DN-2 gets a very bad reputation in various forums (also in the bossarea forum). And justifiably so! This is an example of how bad COSM can be! There are a lot better COSM pedals (RT-20)!

  • whats better- the dyna drive or this?
