It is technically possible to create a non-electric Correcting Selectric with a proper platen.

I remember when these came out in 1973, I was working in a hospital. We were all begging for them! Great machines, still great machines-
-
I typed up a bazillion financial statements on a couple of these!

@AmericanEvita: My first PC was a C=64. America and Russia were enemies in the cold war still. Most European countries didn’t even exist yet, there were two Germanys, an actor was US president and Michael Jackson looked almost black. Computer games haven’t changed a lot to the better since then - in terms of content quality.
People thought we would have flying cars by now, hunger and illnesses would be eradicated, the moon colonized and computers more intelligent than humans…

@jaymax9560: The correction tape works like the carbon tape for writing. It’s some kind of plastic covered with a white masking material, like solid tippex. After the correction of a letter you can see its shape through the correction tape, just like it’s the case with the carbon tapes.

@albedoshader so it puts a white tape on it like wite-out..
-
@dicklacock: Yeah, the print and font quality is superb, that’s one reason.
-
@AmericanEvita: And still Microsoft Word does not show documents or fonts on screen as they will look when printed. 30 years of ‘progress’ and guess what — WYSIWYG my ass.
That’s why i learned LaTeX.
-
@jaymax9560: My sister has one of those. These animals are amazing, with changeable balls for different fonts. Great letter quality.
There are two tapes, a black one for the ink and a white one for corrections.

That was back in the dark ages. Until now there were no pictures or written records of such a device.
