A song I wrote myself last month. Lyrics and Music - Kevin Dardis - I hope you like it. Photo by Magnus Gertkemper.
Irish Girls Aren't Easy
When I was 15, I kissed a girl
No exaggeration, it changed my world
It got me through the winter, just the thoughts of her
We didn't have Playboy in Ireland back in those days
When I 16, I got my hand up a shirt
and a smack in the mouth that really hurt
I was told to wait until love was here
But it must have got lost in the post some place
Irish girls aren't easy
When I was 17, everything finally fell into place
I met a girl in McGonagle's, she was out of her face
She was drinking Rizz, she liked the B-52s
She was from Scotland
It wasn't romantic but I didn't care
At 17 I was already losing me hair
I had a lot of trouble, repeating my success
and I began to realise that ..
Irish Girls aren't easy
So now I live in Germany and I'm doing fine
drinking beer and Franconian wine
the women don't seem to mind me they think my accent is cute
some even think I'm handsome
I have a friend who was born over here
he drinks wine and Franconian beer
there's only one thing that he doesn't understand
and that's why an Irishman would leave his land
so I sat him down and I tried to explain
about living in Ireland and my frustration and pain
But my friend he stopped me with a wave of his hand
and he told me again that he didn't understand
he pointed out the window in the direction of his home
and he told me it's only Kevins who get left Home Alone
he hasn't kissed a girl in a year and a half
and so he can say with conviction that, in his opinion
German girls aren't easy
I suppose my friends there's a lesson in this song
that's probably something that you've feared all along
if you're single and you're lonely, now you know what to do
Go on holidays abroad
If you're a normal bloke the girls in the country you were born in, aren't easy
Brought a smile Kevin. Funny!
