70013 Oliver Cromwell on Day 4 of The Great Britain III (Preston - Shap - Carlise - Beattock - Glasgow) on Friday 9th April 2010. 70013 was deputising for 46115 Scots Guardsman who, despite West Coast Railway's best efforts, was unfortunately unavailable for this leg of the tour and is seen here at Salterwath on the climb to Shap Summit and beneath Greskine Forest on the climb to Beattock Summit.

I regret the camera work is very jerky which spoils things greatly. I have broken my tripod and while it is away for repair I thought I'd get away with using an old cheap replacement. Sadly not!

  • This is the one. Great video.

  • @YuwTuwb Thanks "Syngen". Chris

  • Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs, again! We've done it again Chris. We were only 100 yards or so apart at Beattock and it sounds like David was there as well.

I thought Cronny put on a superb show and you catured it superbly, creep/crawl.

The Black 5's came thru the same location about 50 mins later and everybody had gone.

Just got back from Skye after filming 'Marquis' running along Loch Carron and at Kyle. Will post over the next day or so.

    Hugh.

  • @RailMon You realise you cannot continue to get away with this. Sooner or later we will meet up - though to be honest we could stand next to each other and not realise who it is. The boss was getting fed up, hungry and in need of a comfort break so we went on up the road to The Balmoral Hotel in Moffat. Envy your continued journey north. Loch Carron is a particularly favourite place of mine so looking forward to that immensely. Chris

  • Really good locations here Chris; the Beattock spot gives a great view and the motorway is far less obtrusive than I thought it would be up there. Cheers, David.

  • @Linesider1 Thanks David. Ollie put on a fine show. I had to try and "dampen down" some of the road noise but luckily had the wind in the right direction for some decent sound from the loco in the middle part of the shot. Chris

  • @rab4472 I could hear her for miles but didn't dare leave it all in the YouTube version. Beattock was just magical (shame about the road noise). Chris

  • @zelo1954 You are very kind. I think we all tend to be more critical of our own work. I have hopes of how things should turn out and anything less (which is normal for me) is a disappointment. Cracking locations with a cracking loco working it's socks off and I go and spoil it. Chris
