  • @Bigphatsu: I love you for that answer!

  • @Oyhus I have to admit you're right. It the 3 stages of Yngwie: Yngwie seems really amazing at first, then you realize, "He's just playing Minor and Phrygian really fast, big deal," then you hear people try to imitate and they can't -- and you realize no one can play the way Yngwie does except Yngwie and you respect him again.

He's no diverse musical genius like Frank Gambale nor has he the harmonic imagination of prog rockers like John Petrucci, but Yngwie owns his niche.

  • sounds more like michael angelo batio than malmsteen

  • Gilbert comes out cocky when he does these things. He might be more educated and be a teacher in Hollywood and have practiced all kinds of genres for decades, but he's not an inventor in the same sense. The guitar geeks will go nuts on me for saying this.. TO ME Malmsteen is about tone and feeling the music. Purists will say the opposite though.

You don't sound like Malmsteen just by playing harmonic minor fast.

  • @TheGumboVariator , not true. evoking emotion through the use of phrasing, tension, etc is very important. overly technical, robotic playing has its limits. like special effects in a movie, there has to be story for it to be meaningful. i do think, like you, that simply holding a note isn't a free pass into guitar valhalla either. oft times blues players are not required to have a very big bag of tricks, and repeat themselves a lot. Gilbert can't touch Yngwies writing or playing.

  • @MrSuperbombastik "feeling" is just a concept invented by people who like to see "blues guitarists" making a note last for an hour while making jizz faces.

  • "Imitating" is all anyone can do. Yngwie is often accused of not having any depth or feeling which is quite incorrect. He emotes a great deal. On the other hand, I have never been "moved" by anything gilbert has recorded. everyone seems to forget that even if you get close to copying yngwie's style, his ability to write what he plays is a whole next level. easy to make something after someone else has done it. Oh, and gilbert looks like scrawny drowned rat.

  • @deathmetalterrorist protect his hearing, hes practically deaf in one ear.

  • @NolitaDenise yeh screw you paul has plenty of respect for the douchebag that is yngwie's ego
