Why try going through the same deep ruts you have just made with all the revving, why not go to either side to pass those raather than get stuck again, twice?

For those of you who care I worked out why the diff blew today. The front uni joint seized causing enormous pressure on the bearings which collapsed. So the poor old diff was simply a victim of seized uni joints.
