@hillbillytechshow The entire board doesn't need to be heated. Just the problem area - the GPU. Please be careful advising others to do things like this as its not anywhere near the proper way to do this

@steveovbev then connect the monitor cable and then pop the battery in the back and you will be able to test the system (if you wanna use the system you will need to pop the hardrive and use usb keyboard and mouse)

@Muuny Yes I have tried on a dv6500 with 8400m nvidia chip! Bought a laptop for 40 quid for spares and thought id give it a try and its working fine again! One note though before reassembling run the system for an hour or so as i had to dismantle twice as the first time it appeared ok but after 10 minutes graphics went screwy again! to set it up mount motherboard in base with heatsink and fan installed u will need the top strip with power buttons on there should be 3 cables that attach to this!

Hey hillbilly tech!
I assume you used liquid flux on the lower board when heating the lower & upper portion of the board?

Very bad metod, very amateur and dangerous for board.

well...it lasted a month, i just heated it for 45 seconds. Then I lost the wifi and finally the video. I heated it as long as you did a second time and the repair failed. I did it a third time per your instructions and succeeded. Ill see how long it last this time.
I can't say that I've ever heard of or seen ANYONE want to heat up the entire board as you did in this video - That's quite a leap of faith that you're taking there. By heating up more than just the GPU, you're taking the chance of crippling a component that was otherwise working properly.
Also, by heating up the components, you need to make sure that you DO NOT TOUCH/MOVE the components while they are hot. IF the components move, even in the slightest, the components solder joints wont match.

@chrishultberg the reason i do the entire board is to fix any other soldering defects from the factory, its called preventive maintenance, it works , not all are 100% permanent but it is a cheap and easy fix sometimes for those who canot afford a new laptop

yes this dv6000 had video issues like that and it fixed it, its not always permanent the solder can get hot again and work its way loose the cause is leadless solder it doesnt dry and bond as good as the old solder

itis possible if the chip is not soldered correctly i have been suspecting that alot of motherboard problems could be due to bad solder joints and a reflow could fix alot of issues.
