My 91 and 95 honda have always started in the snow and made it. Last year I made it 50 miles in a blizzard no prob. The pussies in the trucks called out.

what did it idle at?

@Dougs1Place hey just found this old post of mine- I ended up buying a 94 Civic EX coupe (purple) about 1 1/2 years ago :-) thing worked pretty good in the snow up north as long as I kept studded tires on it. car had 184,330 miles when I got it, now I'm @ about 217,000- in that time I've installed new rotors, pads, wipers, crank pulley, fluid changes & just now after driving to MN I added a used trans :-p about to do my inner tie-rod ends and install General Altimax HP tires & struts soon.

@Dougs1Place I'v been starting my opel vectra in -20 up to -35 celsius for two winters in a row now, with no warming-plug. It eats one battery for a winter, but starts every time. The coldest start this winter has been -35, it sounded like its going to die / explode but then it started to run. It gives out lots of black smoke and eats hell alot oil when coldstarting tought lol. I know its raping a car, but i got no change for a warming plug. Im nicely supriced my vectra starts every time!

my hood lever broke too but its a 98 its not a tough fix just an hour and a half
-
im jealous that you made it down to the warmer parts of ak :P
it sucks having to start a car at -50f and colder :(
all my civics have handles the cold pretty well for the most part

Its not that they are very fast nor do they have the most luxurious options and cosmetics. But its the mechanical harmony of all the parts working well with each other. Its the mechanical symphony that is so pleasing with Hondas.

Honda are the best :D
but it has some disadvantages as well
that looked way to easy man... but I've bin starting my 96 Astro in -43 out in bush Alaska (thank god I'm not there anymore)
how do the older Civics handle the snow? I'm trying decide on whether or not I should buy a used civic well I'm in college (in Anchorage AK) or try and get a new or newish chevy 1500

it was to easy, anyhow, my 1991 honda hadles well in the snow, but you do get pulled around alot when the snow is soft and there is a lot of ruts in all of the slushy mess, it is easy to correct when it gets pulled around. being so small, and fun to drive i would say that the honda is your best choise. all of the repairs i have dun on my civic have been minor, nothing costly. best of luck!!
oh, just make shur that you ask the owner of the car when the last time the timeing belt was changed
