The lecture "Bone Response after Immediate Loading of Dental Implants: Short- or Long-Term Success," by Dr. George Romanos, was part of the 35th annual USC Periodontal and Implant Symposium (theme: "The Age of Speed") held in Los Angeles in 2010. Dr. Romanos is a professor of clinical dentistry at the University of Rochester, NY, and director of the Unit of Laser Dentistry. He received his training in periodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery in Germany. He previously served as associate professor for oral surgery and implantology in Frankfurt, Germany, and as a professor of implant dentistry at New York University. He is chairman of the World Federation of Laser Dentistry (WFLD), North American Division, and a member of the editorial boards of the "International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants" (IJOMI), "Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research," the "Journal of Prosthodontics" and "Implant Dentistry." He has written more than 170 publications and three books on lasers and immediate loading, and has given more than 500 presentations worldwide.
