We never overfed our newf long ago, but he later had weight problems. They're a wonderful loving breed though. ^^ I miss my ol' newfie.

exactly, most people think that cos newfies are a big working breed that they eat loads but over feeding them not only is bad for there wieght (obviously) but they can get bloat and die!

we did get a Newfie and at 6 months old she only eats 4 cups a day of premium dog food and weighs 50lbs (I think she's underweight but the vet seems to think its fine). I found that they only eat the LARGE quanities if you use a food that is mostly filler (grains, etc) so the feeding isn't so bad

they dont eat 8 to 10 cups that would b over feeding them!!!

I want a newfie soooo bad! Just don't know if I want a dog that eats 8-10 cups of food a day and digests it. They would be the perfect dog for us!! We love the lake in the summer and winter sports too, we live on a farm so we have plenty of pull work for it (but nothing too much so it won't get hurt). I want one SOOOOO much, so does hubby.
