I suppose my main interest with this question was not "what is art?" but what is considered "great art?" that we as a society should really give acclaim. It seems that our society most greatly rewards those who put some noticeable effort into their endeavors, to create something really substantial. But, on the other hand, all of this is in the eye of the beholder, and I suppose that ultimately people will always have different standards for art.

I'm glad that you mentioned "public" because this does spark in my mind several positive notions toward this art. I don't believe I considered the public reaction to seeing something like this done with intent, not by mistake. I suppose it could have many meanings. So, I do believe that if I had witnessed this art, it would have peaked my curiosity, which could be considered a far greater achievement than a pleasant landscape or some other very refined art.

art? haha. you're an antique.
I accept the fact that this is art, but I give it very little acclaim. I don't see how anyone could consider this "amazing" or an "excelent idea". Honestly, I did the same thing when at 2 years of age I burst a flour sack in my mother's kitchen cupboard. In my opinion, great art takes a better idea or more skill and hard work than dumping a sack of flour on your head in public. Please, can anyone offer a legitimate argument to this?

:) i love it when people try to dig deep. but, good question...what is art? i suggest you look up duchamp and the ready-made. can an idea be art...do you have to make it, or put hard work into it? if you get into mom's flour in the kitchen and she says, "ahh how cute", or "NO00!" how does that transcend to public flour splillage? keep asking questions, you absolutely don't have to think this piece is "amazing." you can hate, and i won't hate you for hating it. good luck with your search
