Wayne Henderson: Get The Ants Out Ya Pants

If anyone would ask me, "what its Funk?" I would put on this record. I can't count the times I played this on the air back when I did non-profit community radio back in the day. And it never gets worn-out. "Get The Ants Out Ya Pants" has got everything one could ever ask for; fantastic horns (superbly arranged by Mister Henderson), great bass playing from Nathaniel Phillips and in-the-pocket drumming from the late Bruce Carter (both were members in Portland, Oregon's Pleasure). We find Bobby Lyle on Fender Rhodes and Hammond B3 Organ, Dean Gant on Clavinet and Moog Synthesizer and Johnny Reason on lead vocals and guitar bag. Wayne Henderson is singing the Be-Bop along with the trombone line. On backing vocals we have Miki Howard, Augie Johnson (also hand claps) and Lucille Reason.
"Emphasized" is an LP well worth seeking out. It contains many more gems and has one of the funkiest cover photos too!

@smovejazz Hey I am listening and sampling it now, just finishing side A. It's actually very nice! Not 100% heavy fonk, but really nice smooth funk stuff. There's a different version of "Get The Ants Out Ya Pants" on it too!! I thank you for asking me g get this LP from the vaults! I will post the songs on my channel, a.s.a.p. maybe today.

@smovejazz Yes, Johnny released an LP in his own name. I have it. I don't recall it being anything special, though, which is odd because he does so much on the Wayne Henderson LP, it should have been called Wayne & Johnny. :) I will listen to it again, sometimes when I have a record that I haven't heard it 20+ years, i change my mind about it when I listen today, as opposed to when I bought it.
