US Marines from 2/7 Golf Company engage in a firefight with the Taliban near Golestan, Afghanistan in Farah Province. The Taliban are pounded from the air with 500 lb. bombs, Mortars, and are picked off one by one with the .50 Caliber Barrett sniper rifle. Go Marines!!!
@Android21A Yep, and many of them who have to shoot without ear plugs often get hearing loss in at least one of their ears by the time their career is finally over. I was at may mom's cousins funeral who was a Vietnam vet recently, and they had a line of six or seven rifleman fire a few volleys. I had no ear plugs and had to plug my ears with my fingers because it was so load. I can't imagine how deafening a battlefield of hundreds of firing guns is. Not to mention explosions.

@CyberSpaceman81 I bet his arm hurts like a bitch at the end of the day. He has to keep his finger on the trigger and the 36lb. gun ramming against his shoulder for hours, while keeping his elbow locked to absorb recoil. I do not envy that.
Snipers don't get enough credit for how difficult it is to remain still, locked in a "kill" position for hours, maybe days on end. They don't get "breaks."

@Android21A Yeah, overpressure can be a bitch, especially without earplugs. Yet i am sure the spotter wanted easy communication with his shooter more. The 50 cal is a rifle that can really reach out and touch someone. Yet I hope he wasn't shooting it too long, even with some built in dampened kick it would be a bitch shooting it over and over for most of the day.

@CyberSpaceman81 Spotter was far away because that gun is louder than God.

i wonder what type of load he was using too? If he was just using regular 50 cal ammo it would be carnage enough. Yet if he had 50 cal High Explosive Raufoss rounds, that is a whole new ballgame. Shape Charge on impact, Zirconium sparks, and a tungsten steel penetrator!!! Man, that would blow a person into a confetti of blood and strewn body parts. Don't sign me up to be on the receiving end of that any time soon. LOL Go Marines!!

At first I thought he was going to shoot the Barrett without a spotter in the vid. LOL Then you see the guy who is standing behind a part of the vehicle with binoculars and hear him calling adjustments like "right two Mils", and so on. His first shot must have landed about 8 feet right of the target for the spotter to call for him to hold at right two mil dots. I wonder at what range he was engaging? Some of that right mil hold adjust may be compensating for spin drift away from the bore too.
